Thanks all for your time and effort. Much appreciated, but none of the workarounds actually do what I have in mind. The library is set up with a numeric custom column built from other columns using the template {pubdate:format_date(yyyy)} (as per Chaley's suggestion), with the 'show in tags browser' option checked. This gives the effect shown in the screen dump attached. Clicking on a year in the tag browser takes me to that year's issues, nice and simple. The only catch is that I have to scroll in the tags browser to get to the most recent years - which are also the ones I want to access most. The ability to list the years in reverse chronology in the tag browser would therefore be a nice touch. Nothing I can't live without of course!
