I would return it and order another from a company that guarantees better service. In Canada I would order from Future Shop, but there must be a few reputable resellers in the States with fast free delivery and guaranteed return policies.

Better to be at least happy with the case color and the screen color to start out with.

I'm getting used to the brown. I may try again for the color of my choice, but meanwhile, it's more important to me to have a nice reader in hand. Sky blue cover on the way, it should look good on a white too if I ever manage one. Cost for an additional cover was only $13. It's been almost four months to get one working Aura, I'm just tired of all the hassle and not having an Aura to read on.

Yes, this possibility occurred to me. I normally prefer no skin, but in this case, it might be a good solution.

I'm fine with a shiny white Sony, but the shiny black version would have driven me spare! Hubby didn't seem to mind it, but I am fussier about how things look. After the Aura, I really notice the low-res screen on the Sony, sigh.

Easy to make glossy plastic finish not glossy but harder to make a matt finish perfectly even glossy finish. There are how to remove glossy finish threads in Sony Mobile Read Forum for T1.

to make it a lighter color, you can use a skin. i just looked at the decalgirls site and they have one for the aura hd that is themed as a composition notebook. it's white with blue horizontal lines, reminding me very much of a white sheet of paper for writing.

Sorry to hear that travel to get one in hand is out due to distance -and I thought I lived in the sticks, and I do! I hope you'll be happy with the replacement, despite the color, now that the firmware reset seems to have helped.

It seems to me that Kobo could have done a lot better job finding you a proper replacement for a new device. I mean a damaged screen(they have heard of quality control?), and then the wrong color device is not establishing a very good track record. You'd think that having to replace a new device in the first place would ensure that someone would check out the replacement device prior to shipping it out. It's not like they aren't aware of possible defects if they're having to replace new units. It's a shame that Kobo seems to turn out such nice devices physically, for the most part, but seems so likely to drop the ball on the little things. Attention to detail, and minding the little things becomes increasingly important in less than stellar economies -they should pay more attention to that.

Good luck. The one advantage that comes to mind is that the darker bezel will increase the apparent contrast of the text compared to a white one and might provide for a better reading experience.

Except the firmware reset only helped for two days, sigh. Double, triple and quadruple page turns are back. Fortunately not happening constantly, but certainly much oftener than desired.

I'm still thinking on whether to return. I guess I could put up with the page turn annoyance, if it doesn't get worse. Seems like all the units have that, to some extent or other, so even another unit with a flawless screen probably won't be flawless on the page turn front.

Kobo has agreed to a return if I want, at least, so they realize it wasn't cool to send me a subsitute color after I clearly said no to that. That's something at least.
