I use a solution of 50% distilled water and 50% white vinegar applied with a soft cloth very occasionally. Otherwise, only a microfibre cloth.

Hmmm I am curious is the case you have lined with felt or anything like that? It could very well be the case that is causing the scratches. Something at the very least to consider. Especially if you already eliminated the other possible causes.

Also spit makes the Ereader a very unhygienic device.

I have small pump mist spray bottle of distilled water with drop of dish detergent. Spray screen and wipe with clean microfiber cloth. Keep this in zip lock bag for travel. If you don't like detergent small amount of alcohol in solution will help cut crud on screen. Most paper products will scratch screen. Even lens tissue should only be used on wet screen to prevent scratches. Anything that could be abrasive should be blown off or brushed off before using lens solution and tissue or lens paper. You can roll up lens tissue then tear off end to make soft brush for brushing off lens. This is how I was taught to clean expensive camera lenses and is safe for reader screens.

Lens paper sold for cleaning glasses I would not use even on cheap glasses.

Clean finger tips on wet surface is ok for cleaning real dirty surface because you can feel any abrasives and stop. This is how I cleaned motorcycle and diving goggles and face plates only with undiluted liquid dish detergent then rinse off flowing water. Too much water for readers, tablets or computer screens.

Dish detergent used for cleaning like this helps prevents fogging of lens.

I am using the same case that I used for my other KOBOs (the original Roots leather pocket) so it can't be the case.

My mom says the scratches look like the crazing you see on ceramics, not really scratches but more of a defect.

well, I am no scientist but I did have a look when using saliva was first suggested to me, and indeed it is used e.g. as a cleaning agent for artworks. You don't douse the screen in it

I have a positive story to share as well.

Recently, I purchased an e-book from the Kobobooks store that turned out to be in PDF format, instead of the expected epub. This had nothing to do with the new store design (I still see the formats listed) and was simply the result of me not paying attention. I don't find PDF usable on the Glo, however, so I wrote in and asked if I could return it, not really expecting much since this was mostly my fault and I was prepared to suck it up. Still, €11 is €11, I felt, so why not ask.

Within a day, I received a response from the T2 support -- and a refund, without any difficulties or the "we make you ask three times before we give in" ordeal that I am used to from other (unrelated) companies. This was my first experience with their customer support, and I can't complain. Certainly smoother than I had feared.
