So by MAC address? Yeah, i could go for that, but I think my Westell 327 is a little too old for that feature (or I'm too old to find it).

From reading Westell 327 manual on line it only supports WEP wireless security now considered very insecure. I would replace the router for that reason alone.

When I went to DSL7.1, Verizon did send a replacement, but I read a reputable review which indicated that the new model didn't recover service from line outages the way the reviewer's Westell did. But back to SSID - I'm not doing it for the security, but for the convenience of my SO, and his Nooks (largely) in the living room. A simple, single broadcast SSID was needed, based on endless weeks of confusion on his part, and that's what I got with the broadcasting Netgear extender. |

I actually have to now go get the .ZIP after 2.1.2 and manually apply it because 2.1.2 has the black bar across the bottom for light adjustment/page numbering. IIRC, the FW after 2.1.2 got rid of that ugliness. |

I'm one that's sticking to 2.5.1 for various reasons, including being able to get rid of the bottom black bar. In 2.5.1, you have the option of having that bottom bar either black or transparent. For me, I hate the black bar because there's a bright white line that shows at the bottom of it where the black doesn't fully extend to the bottom of the screen and I find that really annoying to stare at while reading. It might just be a matter of the screen situated a fraction too high. But my reader also doesn't show the "spotlight" effect some refer to where the LEDs show uneven lighting, my reader is pretty evenly lit in that regard, so the clear look is perfect for me.
I won't say that 2.5.1 is perfect, but it's the best choice for me out of the updates. Last edited by Ripplinger; 07-31-2013 at 12:21 AM. |

I'm just curious what changed? As I read the OP I got the impression it once worked? If so, what is the first thing that changed that lead to it not working? Seems the place to start... If I'm wrong and it never worked, my apologies.

I'm not sure if the OP is checking this thread but have they tried something as simple as increasing the "Private LAN" DHCP Lease Time to the maximum duration ? I would always suggest this when the Router didn't support DHCP Reservations.
I used to manage the IT Dept for a Firm with around 100 users and I would have to support issues like this one and something I noticed with some of the older routers was that when you disabled the "SSID Broadcast", the firmware would modify the wireless beacon timing and some other settings instead of just turning off SSID broadcast. Suddenly, devices could not connect to the access point no matter what. As soon as the SSID broadcast was re-enabled, everything was okay. This could be the reason why the Kobo isn't connecting; it may not be able to see the access point... Last edited by noopykat; 08-02-2013 at 01:39 AM. |

Actually tried that in the past, but I found that my system "dismounted" the Kobo as a R/W disk device before I had a chance to kill the update.

I did, actually. 99 day lease. Didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion.

a) how annoying it is, and I usually dismiss most UI complaints as just whining. b) how long it took Kobo to fix it (2.5.1? Wow. Back I go to the FW thread.) |
