Haven't seen the movie. Have no intention in seeing the movie. The book was not your typical zombie story. I've read it twice and have the audiobook, though I haven't listened to it yet.

Audiobook would be very cool to hear, especially since there are so many different 'voices' in the book.

As for the actual content, as mentioned by others, they are drastically different! I cannot get over how fast the zombies are in the movie and how slow they are in the book... as I continue reading I am very curious to see how many recognizable scenes from the book actually appear in the movie!

As has been mentioned, there is no similarity between the two. I liked the way the book was done: a collection of individual's experiences. OTOH I like the movie too, but the two share no DNA.

The title is the only thing the book and movie have in common. I hate it when they do that. It is beyond rude taking the title of a book then making a totally different movie.
Now I started reading the book, and pretty much hated it. I was at the point of giving up, when somebody on the forum pointed out I should enjoy it for what it is not what I wanted it to be. See I hate short stories, I lack motive to get emotionally involved with characters that are gone in 5 minutes. I sat that aside and found myself enjoying it more and more. I loved it by the end.
Now the movie, after I stoped whining that it was not the book, I found as zombie movies goes, pretty good. Think 28 days later.

It was a good read. Obviously you have to suspend disbelief when it comes to zombies, but you don't have to suspend disbelief when it comes to the way people reacted. It has a much better scientific explanation than what was suggested in the movie. Zombies in the ocean was probably its most creative point.

I'm not its target consumer, but I read the book not too long ago because the "worldwide" idea of it intrigued me. In the end I didn't really like it all that much.

I don't mind the short-story aspect of the book, or even knowing (since it all happened in the past and they're telling the story) that the main characters of each story survive. I just didn't find most of the stories so very interesting and some were quite boring.

I would've rated it one star out of five, but I did still like the reason I initially read the book in the first place - that the idea is international, so the stories take place all over the world in various cultures, which is interesting, and a few of the stories are good, so I bumped its rating to two stars for those reasons.
