I use Android for two reasons:
a) The ability to sideload 3rd party apps. b) Price of hardware. |

App developers should be working on both platforms.
I can see why more iOS apps are polished though, not only are there more paying customers but the hardware is more restricted (e.g. easier to optimize for just a couple of displays). |

Android. There is more freedom and the hardware is cheaper. The system is also more open, which allows me to figure out how it works. (I don't like black boxes.)

iOS. I have a Nexus 7 and find it very non-intuitive to use.

I've only used Android -- purely a matter of price.

I honestly don't understand comments like that. Yes, Androids are typically more difficult to configure. Yet you only need to do that once. General device usage though isn't that much less intuitive (whatever intuitive means).

I've used both iPads and iPhones and can't for the life of me see how they are any more intuitive in use than Android counterparts. Initial configuration, as noted above, is probably a little more fiddly, but for anybody who's even just vaguely computer literate Android should present no more problem than iOS. To find an Android tablet "very non-intuitive" I rather think you have to really want to find it so.

I use both and like different things about each. Can't say I prefer one over the other.

Any unfamiliar system takes a little learning, but if an application developer is asking which system he should support, the answer is clearly "both". To a very broad approximation they have about half the market each.

Hmmmm... I would prefer an open iOS, but that's not an option. So, my answer to this poll is both equally.

In terms of which OS I prefer, I say Android with zero hesitation. To me, it's simply a better OS, period. I don't think anyone can argue with it being a lot more versatile than iOS, allowing users to do things which simply cannot be done on iOS. Ranging from the simplistic (file browsing and drag & drop, widgets, freestyle icon placement...) to the more complex (installing new launchers, new keyboards, multi-user customization...)
But beyond the versatility, I personally find it more intuitive and more attractive to boot. And all this is coming from someone who started on iOS and have since jumped ship. Now, as far as hardware is concerned it a little bit of a different story. I love the Nexus 10, I really do. It's a solidly built device with a great screen. But I still have to give the iPad 3 the leg up. The battery is a bit better, and (in no small part due to the metallic body of the iPad) the overall feel of the device is more impressive. Then again, I do prefer the aspect ratio of the Nexus 10 to that of the iPad... Anyway, hardware-wise it's close enough that I choose the Nexus 10 over the iPad any day of the week, simply because of the superior OS. |
