The front light can also be a help if the power goes out at night too. It can provide some good illumination in such cases.

Well, if you're sure about the frontlight, get a Kindle or Kindle touch depending on how much typing you do. With the discount you will probably get from Amazon, they'll be cheaper than other readers.

The one thing I miss on kobo touch in comparison with kindle keyboard are buttons. I don't know if nook touch is discounted where you are, it's also not a bad idea.

Yup! Mine came in useful the other night when our power went out during a storm. My PW helped me find the lantern.

SouthernSun, have you checked with Amazon about a discount? Is that why you're so certain you couldn't get one?

Lots of good suggestions here. Which way do you think you're leaning?
