Derek,

...not sure what "we're working on it" refers to.....so, please let me ask again:

Will some sort of notification be sent if the card authorization times-out?

If your credit authorization expires before we order; we will email you and ask you to reorder when the count is closer to 100.

I don't get it. Are you doing sort of a "verification" like the gas pump does, then the actual charge when you order.

Why not hold all the orders, then once you have 100 do the verification hold, then when you ship do the charge?

The primary reason is credit card security. Currently NAEB does not see the full credit card number and does not store it. To accomplish what you are suggesting would require us first to do an authorize on the card, to make sure you have the funds available, then store your complete credit card information and re-charge you when we ship. In order to provide the level of security I would want for that type of situation I would need a dedicated server I have complete control over. That in turn raises our maintenance costs, which raises the price we have to charge.

On the more practical side, if we can't turn 100 units in 30 days, is there a large enough market to support what we are trying to do?

Hmm... as a developer I only see challanges not problems. AES, 256bit encryption is very secure and not hard to use at all, even if you don't control the server you could make sure the number never escapes SLL envelope in the clear.

Hmm... only you can answer that question... is there? I guess if you are getting 100 or more orders a month then it is. Perhaps you can get to the point where you get 100 orders a week!

Part of the issue is that it doesn't matter how secure we make it at our end-the rules of the average CC processor are such that there's a 30-limit on the authorization - period.

As for getting 100 orders per week, well... and *why* haven't you been pushing your friends and family to place more orders??? Surely you have a couple of cousins, nieces and nephews, children or grandchildren for whom you *NEED* to buy Cybooks, yes???

I'm almost afraid to ask this question.....but.....

With Bookeen announcing that they're currently out of stock of the cyBook, does this impact NAEB's scheduled end-of-March order and delivery of cyBooks? Or are those units already allocated/promised to NAEB?

-many thanks,

Jeff

Amen to that!

All right all you idle bystanders....time to step up and make this happen. NAEB is only about 1/3rd of the way to the minimum order size!

NAEB's site will soon update to tell you about the latest reserved order and about the next reserved order.
