I stumbled upon this topic again only now. I will look back into my files to see if I can find it again. I actually created it for someone else. I will send you a private message as soon as I've had the time to check it out. I have many files but need to verify which one is the working one. :-s

The dictionary on Amazon.de you are linking to is the one that was removed. It also says (in German) that the book is not available at this time, for it's "under review" because of a problem.

As mentioned to some of you already:

I have too many files on my PC that might be the working dictionary. I forgot to sort them in a proper manner when I created the dictionary. The only file I know that works for sure is on the Kindle Paperwhite but actually it's not my Kindle so I would have to ask it back from the person I gave it to.

I will try to get that asap. In the mean time: have you guys tried the procedure explained in the post? You could create it yourself, would probably be faster.

I have made some dictionaries before. If you point me to a dutch-dutch dictionary file I might be able to make a dictionary.

Well, the guide seems quite complicated to my eyes I am afraid and I presume the same holds for many other members of the forum! We would be grateful if you could find and share the working dictionary! Thanks in advance

If Budhaxe created his working Kindle Dictionary based a pirate dictionary file, or if his original file is a normal dictionary that he bought in another format, then he will/should not share it here (and the latter is my guess) because copyrights are involved and this goes against MR rules.

If his dictionary is issued from an open source dictionary, then there is no problem. Those files are easily obtainable on the net, but until now I never saw a dutch dictionary there, although I'll have to admit I never really looked for it. And the quality of those dictionaries is most of the time very poor.

I will search the links for those open source directories and will re-post here what I found.

The latest Kindle for iOS 4.5 app offers free monolingual, English-Dutch and Dutch-English dictionaries for download.

Unfortunately, there not yet available for for eInk Kindles and other Kindle apps.

i think i saw that the new kindles will have nederlands as a language option, which surely means it comes with the dictionary too, which will be good

i'm not sure if it will get back ported, but still, good

There are also persistent rumors that Amazon is about to open a Dutch site.

Of all languages supported so far, Dutch has the most dictionaries. The iOS Kindle app comes with the 2014 editions of:

1. B00KAJJRIW: Van Dale Groot woordenboek hedendaags Nederlands (monolingual)
2. B00KAJJRI2: Van Dale Groot woordenboek Nederlands-Engels (Dutch-English)
3. B00KAJJRMI: Van Dale Groot woordenboek Engels-Nederlands (English-Dutch)

Hi, I registered just now, in order to post. I was also searching all over for a Dutch dictionary, or a way to create one.

I found step-by-step, easy to follow instructions here:

This guy explained it really well, and the dictionary that you download from Babylon is a legal download, and free to use.

The only hiccup I experienced, is that the html file generated from the Babylon file (once you read his instructions this will make sense) came out with something like "00003A" in the place where the ":" should be, but I just opened the html file in a text editor and did a replace all of the string "00003A" by ":" and it all worked!

For instance, where the html should read "idx:entry", it read, instead "idx00003Aentry" (or something like that) and that's what I fixed with the search and replace all.
