I had an issue with a recent update to the Android app where the app wouldnt finish loading to my library. I deleted data and re-signed in and all was well. Zinio uses a proprietary format AFAIK. It downloads thumbnails of the pages which are semi-readable as images but are not HQ by any definition. It also provides a text only mode. Have not really delved deep into the internals, though.

Wow, thanks tubemonkey for drawing my attention to this
My local library in NSW, Aus, has Zinio Digital Magazines and provides access to over 100 magazines that library members can download for free. (Library membership here is free - Local Council owned and run). I know that the BB Playbook has a Zinio app, so now I've got a reason to use it eh!! ![]() Here's our choice: Spoiler:
------------------- Edit I just went through the library/Zinio signup process and downloaded my first mag - hassle free

Not available at my local library.
My library does have ebooks via Overdrive, but I've never used it. I have so many on my reader waiting to be opened that I really just can't be bothered. I'd be interested in Ellery Queen. I used to buy them when they were sufficiently discounted at Fictionwise, but I have too many demands on my time to make a full price purchase worthwhile and don't want to pay full price for only a few stories. Odd, to me at least, that they have EQ and not Hitchcock's. (Or Analog and Asimov's, which I do pay full price for every month.) |

I haven't caved in to the tablet frenzy yet. And I can't imagine trying to read one of these on my Android Phone! So it's moot for me. |

I "subscribe" to 21 magazines. That saves me quite a bit of pocket change; easily enough to buy a new tablet every year. ![]() Here are the mags I "subscribe" to: Spoiler:

Get a 16GB Nook HD+ 9" - it makes a great magazine reader. It's $149 at B&N or $119 on sale at OfficeMax (if you can find a store with stock). Best Buy, Office Depot, and Staples might honor the 20% off coupon; but it's up to individual stores managers. YMMV |

I've been borrowing through zinio for a while. 2 of my 3 libraries are part of the program. I read them on my tablet, through the zinio app. I also sometimes read them on my laptops (win7 and vista) without any problems. It's great, I'm downloading a few regularly and a few random ones occasionally. I don't really have time to read them all but as long as i remember to download them they don't expire, so i can read them when i do have time. My list bears a striking similarity to the one upthread. :-)
