But that does not prevent Calibre from dealing with an INPUT source archive BTW 64 bit Calibre (W7 Sp1) works just like the 32 bit version on XP, only faster

So I was using 64-bit Calibre until I noticed that it was not extracting epubs from rars.
Looked strange to me, why leave zip inside rar. I guess, once books are imported, I can switch back to 64-bit Calibre. But they will never be, I'm afraid... |

![]() You can't put an Archive (or anything except a known book format. I believe an OPF file is allowed.) IN an archive and have calibre extract it. That applies to 32 bit also |

Oh, thanks. Done.
I also set Calibre Viewer as the default application to open rars. Pretty convenient. I can now check out books in rars without importing into Calibre. I lose nothing by doing this because Far still treats rar as rar and not as ebook. Calibre Viewer is a stand-alone application and it is pretty good, turns out. |

Please just say EPUB
thenThose of us who know, know it is a custom form of Zip Archive. Example of Zips within Zips: When buy multiple books at Baen, my order comes in as myordernumber. zip. Inside is the books also in a zip (formatISBN.zip) I can't just drop the ORDER (zip) into calibre and have entries appear in the list. I get one 'Unknown' entry because there is no metadata JUST inside the container. I need to remove the outer packaging (ordernumber.zip). |
