I decided to keep mine. I don't have the nervs to deal with kobo's support. as mentioned above mine works perfectly when the light is off and I'll hope that some day I'll ignore the defect when reading in the dark. but I'll never bye anything from kobo again. including books. that's imho the only way to deal with companies that suck...

I ordered a Kindle Paperwhite and case at 3:16pm yesterday. It was delivered 11:23am today from Ontario, California. The case came from Whitestown, Indiana which is a 27 hour drive from Las Vegas and arrived with the Kindle. They both were air shipped. I only did 2-day shipping. This is a nice change from Kobo.

Is there a way to get rid of those so called stuck pixels? I don't know, maybe applying some sort of a laquer or something might help.

The result will probably look like this...

Light is evil.

You might have more success replacing the entire light layer, not sure if that's possible, maybe someone with a broken display could test whether the light layer can be separated from the display at all or not.

There's no such thing as a "stuck pixel" on an e-ink screen. Are you experiencing bright spots or dark spots? With the light on or without?

I just noticed it in the video without specifically looking for it.
Why are you posting this in multiple threads? That's a defect in the video, not in the device. Unless the demonstrator's finger has a stuck pixel too.

(Once again, e-ink displays DO NOT GET STUCK PIXELS.)

I just used the term used in the title of the thread, so decided to stick to it I know there's no such thing, it's the top "frosting" screen layer has a tiny damage.

The bright spot is visible on my Kobo H2O when the frontlight is on, see the photos. Returning it back to Canada is not an option, unfortunately.

@frostschutz, thanks for the answer.

@LeJon, no, that definitely is not a screen defect. You can see the spot even on his finger.

Ah yep - assuming it's not muck on the screen it looks like a light guide defect or damage. A shame you can't return it, but at least it's off in the margin.

(I wish they'd change the subject line too!)

Bad pixels are entirely possible with eInk, but usually it's bad subpixels which you don't really see with the naked eye since their size is considerably smaller than 1 pixel. Not all of the millions of ink particels move the way they're supposed to.

I'd be happy if it was muck, but not with my bad luck, haha.

Also, someone told me that applying an anti glare (matte) screen protector should resolve the issue. What do you, guys, think?

One thing that helped me when I got an older GLO with some pin pricks was using a soft pencil to apply a little graphite on the area with the lighthole and smudge it carefully away with a finger until it is no longer noticeable.

No, it's not the same; they're completely different screen tech. LCD screens are made of pixels. A bad one is generally a stuck sub-pixel (bright; a colour)/stuck pixel (bright white) or "dead" (black).

Frontlit e-ink screens are not made of pixels in the same way that LCD screens are; they are made of microcapsules. These can sometimes burst, leaving a fixed dark spot on the screen. Bright shining spots are never due to these; they are light guide defects/damage, or dirt.
