I set my all my devices (eink and LCD) for taps. Quick and simple.
My hate for paging by swipes (wasted motion!) is only exceeded by my hatred for the animations themselves. (See above.)

To me fake page turns just get in the way. Simply give me the next page of text in a clean, efficient and unobtrusive manner and I'm happy.

I swipe left as that is most natural to turning the page of a book for me. I have the T1 and it took me a while to get used to that button going the other way. I started with touchscreen so the left swipe has always been the way I roll.

Just taps for me. I don't swipe. Too much wasted motion and often not conducive to one-handed reading. My left hand finds itself too often wrapped around a cold Amstel to be bothered to join the right in a unilateral page turning action.

If I were a swiper, however, swiping left would make the most sense to me to advance the page. I might even lick my finger first.

Is it me, only? I even find distracting reading if pages move right to left, instead of gracefully changing as a real book's page.

The curious thing is that this does not bother me on eink devices as the whole page dissolve before displaying the next one.

Wonder if someone else it is like me.

I like page-curl animations and use them frequently even for pdf's and comics.

There is nice one in PerfectReader 2 lite

Some other pdf/comic readers for iOS.

Page animation? Not on my iPad. At least, I can't find the option.

Are you sure you have it on the iPhone? iOs is consistent across all Apple devices. What may differ is size and resolution, because different screens.

My Sony reader has touch turns and page turn buttons. There is no animation, unless you count the e-ink flash as a transition/animation (ha ha). The page turn button icons have < for back and > for forward. I match the touch turns to this: I swipe RIGHT to go forward and LEFT to go back. It would be confusing to have my swipes go one way, and my buttons go the other way. (and I do switch between buttons and swipes all the time.)

But the convention when reading on a phone or tablet is to swipe LEFT to go forward. This is due to page turn animations: you "pull" the page to the left to get to the next page. So I swipe one way on my reader, and the other way on my phone. Once in a blue moon, I get it wrong because I'm accustomed to reading on one or the other. I guess my next e-ink reader will most likely not have physical buttons, and I'm wondering if I would switch to using left swipe to go forward.

So, those of you with e-ink readers, and those of you with no animations, do you swipe left or right to page forward?

eP
I've always thought of swiping as panning as opposed to flipping pages. I imagine pages are laid out from left to right, and swipe left to drag the one on the right into view. I wonder if some Japanese feel it's unintuitive for that reason?

Waste of battery

Same for the page flip sound effect

(a simple 'tick' , operation, acknowledgment feedback would be nice)

I like the feedback offered by page turn animations, but prefer a sliding transition. Page curls don't really fit the technology. The metaphor of moving data seems to fit better than the metaphor of a turning page. That and tablets are rigid rather than flexible.

Actually, fake page-turning is one of the main reason I haven't installed CM on my Nook tablet. I think it's really neat.

It just depends on software i.e. there are e-readers that allow left-to-right as well as right-to-left swiping/tapping, like there are apps that allow us to choose between L-R, R-L, T-B (top-bottom) e.g. SideBooks, pdf/comic reader for iOS.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/side...409777225?mt=8

So that Jews, Arabs, Chinese and others can select their preferred direction.

Yep, I'm sure. Aa menu item --> more options --> animate page turns on/off

I wouldn't buy any device that didn't at least have a way of shutting off the animated page turns. Cutesy graphics like that certainly do nothing to enhance my reading experience at all, I want to get to the next page the quickest, least obtrusive way. To me that animation is nothing more than a battery drain.

As far as it helping relieve some of the strain from older eyes, the reverse color momentary flash common to e-ink is enough for me that does the same thing.

I think we had a very similar discussion not too long ago, maybe Apple wanting to get a patent on their page turns?
