Note that you have to press it in with you nail since it does not stick until the card is 1-2 mm below the top.

I suppose you can just hold it inserted with your hand or put some tape to hold it if you only need it to update firmware.

Yes--sometimes you have to press it really hard until you feel a click. It takes a try or two sometimes. Not forcing it, but it's just hard to get the card in deep enough to catch with your finger. I use the edge of a pen or a coin sometimes, set perpendicular to the card.

Same thing getting it out--I always need to use a coin to push it in to release the catch.

Have you tried using a coin to push it in further?

SUSGOD, maybe if you tell them it NEVER worked, they will replace it. It seems wrong to me that they wouldn't.

Yep, if you tell them it never worked, that might do it. And given what you've said, I'm beginning to believe that the slot is broken. I hate to ask this, because I know Australia can be a big, wide-open-spaces place, but is there a competent (we all know competent repair techs can be hard to find) repair tech who could verify the SD card won't stay? I don't really think Bookeen necessarily believes this may be the case - but I can't say for sure as I've not been between you and their tech support, eavesdropping.

Still, I urge you to get the RMA number as soon as possible because it will take a while after shipping before they repair and ship back or replace and ship back.

Derek,

I live in New Jersey and purchased my CyBook from NAEB, I sent e-mails to you and to Jim.

When I received the Cybook two weeks ago, my computer did not recognize the CyBook or the sd slot and I could not put the SD card in the Cybook. I purchased another SD card and had the same problem. I have a separate card reader that would not load either card. The card reader wanted to format them but was not able to do this. I loaded books directly on the the Cybook and went to Arizona for a week. I was able to arrange to have both cards loaded by a friend. His computer had no trouble. Since there really was nothing wrong with the cards, the problem must be with recognition by my computer. When I returned from Arizona, I tried to put the loaded SD cards in my CyBook, but they will not stay in. Whatever holds them in does not catch. I e-mailed Jim, you, and Bookeen. I did explain to Bookeen that the card never worked. Jim said he would forward my e-mail to you. Bookeen replied the very next day informing me that "Broken parts are not covered by the warranty; if you wish, we can handle a repair. This operation costs 70 euros plus shipping". They gave me a "Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) procedure", but did not supply an authorization number.

SORRY! I don't know *WHERE* I got the clue you were in Australia, but I surely did!

The RMA process *should* have included a number. Email them again and make sure you let them know that you didn't get an RMA number. It should be a string of something like RMA-customername-MMDDYYYY-xxxx.

As for the card reader not formatting the SD card, perhaps it's not being recognized by the computer in the USB port you chose. Please try another.

I've tried every port on my computer except the printer port. I think the problem is in the CyBook SD slot. I'll try contacting Bookeen again.

Yep. I think you should. From what I've read of these and other posts within the Cybook forum, I think we've tossed out every possible solution we have experienced and I'm rather sure it's a hardware problem - which means getting Bookeen to either fix or replace. Sorry there wasn't a different solution you could implement yourself.
