During a parents evening one of my daughters teachers told me that children often stop reading books at about 12 or 13 and start again around 15. She also said that those children who do not stop have a a measurable advantage over those that stopped.

My 13 year old daughter reads both books and ebooks on her iPad. I asked her if many of her friends used eReaders and she told me that most use EReaders and mostly they use Kindles.

I think the main reason is convenience. Her friend recommend books to each other and they can download the book quickly.

LOL! A few days ago, I actually tapped the right page of a paper book I was reading in order to turn it...

If I had kids, I'd not mind if they wanted books or an ereader, and I'd not mind what they read, as long as they'd read. However, if you read Dutch only, having an ereader is still next to useless. Only the greatest best sellers and best known authors are translated, and ebooks invariably cost between 8,95 to 19,95 euro.

My 9 yr old son loves the idea of ebooks and has fun making the font bigger so it's easier to read. However, as a boy he tends to avoid reading in favour of playing outside or with other electronics. I have made sure that he has lots of paper and ebooks at various levels so that he has choices when he does want to read. So far all these options have kept him reading fairly regularly.

I guess I'm saying that while he loves the idea of ebooks, at this age he needs both paper and ebooks to keep him reading.
