Sorry, but while I can see that Kobo and Google Analytics might have a way to benefit from these statistics, I have no idea what the user/reader gets out of it.

Luck;
Ken

Me, neither, Ken. I read as a pastime not as a competitive sport. Who cares how long it takes? I think we must be missing out on something

Anyway, a bit funny that I'm getting drawn back into this, when I'd already resigned myself to not bothering with the stats almost a year ago
Well I suppose if you go back to the current location you left and not actually exit the book to go to the main menu for example that should count as current session (table of contents and dictionary browsing as well). But if you use the table of contents to jump back or forward then that would count as a new session. And with the dictionary unless you exit to the main menu after looking up the word, then it should stay as the same current session.

Some people really like the time to finish the chapter, others are achievement motivated and want to know how many books they have read etc. Not necessarily a competitive thing, just a way of keeping track. Some people just like statistics and some are attracted by the novelty and/or social networking functions. Not a thing wrong with any of these and I am sure there are other reasons.

I was attracted by the novelty but that got old fast. I suspect that it is fairly common, but I can understand a new Kobo owner being a bit excited by the possibilities for a week or so.
