hi, have you seen this case? Is your 505 similar to this? A few in a Chinese Forum also have this problem. One of them said he charged his 505 with an Apple's usb charger and the screen had this problem then and can't fix it neither hard nor soft reset. After sitting the reader for some time (probably fully discharge) and plug in the PC, it started charging and finally recovered.

Is your 500 under warranty? If you want, to send it in to get serviced in the USA, I can receive it and send it back to you as long as you pay the shipping to send it back.

Hey Jon, thanks for the offer yes it's under limited warranty so that's parts only, after considering labour costs and shipping to the States and back I have already decided to cut my losses and have ordered a CyBook Gen3 from NAEB,but having said that I really appreciate your offer.
Take Care

re: Sony bright spot saga

I have done a volte-face regarding my PSR 500 I received an email from Sony with a address to send it in Laredo Texas to be repaired under warranty in reply to the letter I posted to their Technical Response Centre service in Florida, saying that they would repair and return it if I paid the labour and postage charges "fair enough"

That's a lot better than some other guy on this forum who had an amazon kindle.

They would not even look at it as they had no repair facility I believe.

Hi, re:PRS500 bright spot. I received an estimate of $79.99 inc return post for the repair under limited warranty which I can accept or deny if I were to deny they will return the unit free of charge I have of course accepted.
I have to say that the service I have received from Sony both here in Thailand and the States has been first class. I believe I was unlucky to buy a "Friday Afternoon Model" but I would recommend the Sony Reader to anyone I can't wait to get mine back
Take Care
