while we are,
The problem append while I'm tryng to implement in my K5+Raspberry system a "KindleBerry", of course you heard about this... actually, or better previously, I was able to use my raspberry monitor as a second Monitor of a K5 by tmux....(left to do the opposite... and a couple of other things). The problem "was" that in my K5 missed ssh client only sshd is installed (seems). Then I try to install "Extended Linux Functionality Package" hoping to find the client. After several launch of the application installed ELFP, by KUAL, the loop devices tree became "full" or to many populated. For this reason I deleted, for an option mistake, the /dev/loop directory instead that the first loopfile ...and this story is started. The question is ELFP solve the problem of ssh client ? or not?? In any case, you know another way to provide the client to the K5??? |

Hi, the USB stick have finished now ...
the report: 243200+0 records in 243200+0 records out 996147200 bytes transferred in 6825.254195 secs (145950 bytes/sec) Probably the USBStick is a little corrupted (my girlfriend say that it's an USB2)... I don't want use for KUBRICK. In this moment I hve another stick of 1GB size... In your opinion is enaugh or is to small for execute the tool. From the command line: /dev/disk2s1 998Mi 738Mi 260Mi 74% /Volumes/CICCIPUX then 998 is not more bigger of 996147200 bytes but dd has written the image: 243200+0 records in 243200+0 records out 996147200 bytes transferred in 214.645844 secs (4640887 bytes/sec) If the tools don't need to write in the USB I think is ok. What you think about? |

Ok, kubrik work very well for me!! very nice tools-box.
Now I have another question... after the "restoring" actions the K5 is jaibroken, but the apps like KUAL etc... don't work... I think it's normal (non destructive restore is genius). The question is I can delete all directories previously created by apps and restart from start to reinstall them, or I must do the unistall of the apps one by one. I want start to USBNet, KUAL, kterm. I wanted move the discussion in other thread but I would also like to finish the discussion about loopdevice (when I will restore the system like it was yesterday ![]() Last edited by nanos; 03-05-2013 at 08:36 PM. |

All the rest of the things you mentioned are on the "User Storage" a different partition than the one which was restored. |

Did you actually run it on a Macbook? If so, how? Please let me know so I can include the information in the Kubrick post.

Obviously I badly explained , I run it in a NON-apple machine.
When the system is booted by CD (with C button holded) not recognize the boot drive. This test in not reliable, becuase I noted that my superdrive no longer work like as new. I tryed with USB (option button holded) but nothing... I leave the USBStick with kubrick installed on and when I will try rFEIt I made another test. |

I fixed some things and now the system is ready to work as Kindleberry (I hope).
The ssh client is installed and I tryed to ssh into mb & pi and both work properly. The last thing to do is prevent the situation that caused the problem last time. But this time, I think that the problem may not occur. My theory: the problem with loop devices occur when I tryed to make several access to an image contained in ELFP (this is the normal because I call the program from KUAL several times). When the loop devices created fill the (programmed) tree the system give the error. In this case, since the ssh client provided by twobob instead by ELFP, no image is used and then the problem is automatically fixed... The explanation is convincing? The K5 kernel is new enough that it no longer has a limit on the number of loop devices. It creates them as needed. But you might have been accessing the limited number of loop devices as: /dev/loop## rather than as /dev/loop/#..# |

I'm try (one time) to repeat the old procedure but now oriented to the viceversa (use the kindle as 2nd monitor of the pi) to check that the system work properly.
The test: on pi: - install tmux with apt; - from terminal : tmux -S /tmp/pair - fom tmux session command line: chmod +x /tmp/pair on K5: - connect with ssh to pi; - and then: tmux -S /tmp/pair attach the result is showed here (I hope this site work well, imageshack now want an account (#!$%&) & this is my first time with tinypic): http://tinypic.com/r/2ljl1n9/6 and http://tinypic.com/r/6thgzm/6 The next step is make automatic the process, in this way I think that the K5 can be used as a stand-alone monitor with pi.
