Note that twobob's settings as shown reflect the defaults. You need to follow ixtabs advice to change it (or, as I told you, change the settings of your LAN). Use an editor to edit the "config" file according to ixtabs post. Change the RNDIS interface IP accordingly.

Hawhill I have succeeded in changing the IP settings and Terminal finally saw Kindle! (I followed ixtab's settings: 192.168.42.2 for usbnetwork IP and for RDNIS device IP 192.168.42.1)
then I followed the last steps: [root@kindle root]# /etc/init.d/netwatchd stop system: I netwatchd:def:stopping Netwatch Daemon [root@kindle root]# /etc/init.d/powerd stop Stopping Power Management Daemon: [root@kindle root]# /mnt/us/kindlevncviewer/kvncviewer.sh 192.168.42.1:1 & The last phrase though was unsuccessful and I got this message [root@kindle root]# com.lab126.powerd failed to set value for property preventScreenSaver (0X3) I am just one step behind! Could you help me again? |

these are the contents of the knvcviwer.sh file:
#!/bin/sh cd $(dirname "$0") LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. export LD_LIBRARY_PATH lipc-set-prop com.lab126.powerd preventScreenSaver 1 ./kindlevncviewer -config config.lua "$@" lipc-set-prop com.lab126.powerd preventScreenSaver 0 # send menu key twice to refresh display echo "send 139" > /proc/keypad echo "send 139" > /proc/keypad That means that the line that you have written twobob is already there...! A question about installing vncviewer in the Kindle. I unzip the file and I get one folder named kindlevncviewer and inside it are two folders, one of which is named kindlevncviewer, another one named launchpad and some files. Should I copy the first (big) folder kindlevncviewer in Kindle or open it and copy its contents separately? I also edited another file called kindlevncviewer.ini to match the IP settings I have for my Kindle. These are the lines that I changed: [Actions] ;; start kindlevncviewer, connect to 192.168.42.1:1 V U = !/mnt/us/kindlevncviewer/kvncviewer.sh 192.168.42.1:1 & Now what guys? |

1) You can't be certain that the current working directory will remain unchanged. Don't include the current working directory in any *nix path. This isn't a Windows FHS plan, it is the Linux FHS plan. 2) Don't assume that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is empty when this is entered. Always include its current setting with your additions. 3) Use the information you have on hand in those three statements to provide an absolute path to your application's library files. |

I am just a writer who is trying to connect kindle as a second monitor to rest my eyes and I am in the last step of the procedure written by tinyapps.org (http://tinyapps.org/docs/e-ink-monitor.html) and I need help! cd $(dirname "$0") <-- = change to the directory of the program you are trying to run
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. <-- = add the current directory (SHOULD be the one above) to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH... you could make that absolute I guess like... LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/mnt/us/kindlevncviewer:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH IIRC there is like a jpg lib and libvncclient? in there... not much anyways.. both variation can cover all use cases for this thing... It works on mine as Hawhill provisioned and so would this other (more standard) variation. as it is an ephemeral value that will "just disappear" at the end of the script run it wont matter in this context... however as knc1 says as a general rule you would not have something as horrible as "." in your global LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Your error, you reported, however was nothing to do with any of that... you said that lipc-set-prop com.lab126.powerd preventScreenSaver 1 failed in some way... Have you checked the output of just lipc-set-prop com.lab126.powerd preventScreenSaver 1 via ssh... or myts.. or something (I use both of them on the DX ) perhaps the script got mangled in some way... ??? I really am at a bit of a loss as I run this thing all the time... Hope that at least provides some background. if not a solution. Last edited by twobob; 03-10-2013 at 03:41 PM. |

The error reported is irrelevant as for now. I'd rather say that the host PC is misconfigured so it does either not present a VNC server listening on 192.168.42.1:5901 (which is VNC display :1) - or a firewall or similar prevents connections to it.

Hawhill you are my man! As I type these words I am now looking on My Kindle screen and it ... works! It is mirroring my imac display (75% of the whole desktop).
The solution of the mystery was on the Vine Server. The display was set on number 2 not on number 1. I changed it and everything works now. Thanks to all the people that bothered to help, it's the first time I ask for advice in such a forum and I was moved by the interest and the generosity specially when the subject is about someone who doesn't know anything about programming! |

Hey Guys
Thanks for all the great work on the VNC Viewer. I've just finished hooking up my new DXG to the Raspberry Pi using USB Networking and the Kindle VNC Viewer, amazingly great work, thanks. I do have an issue where the Viewer seems to crash out after an hour or two running and sometimes the DX reboots, leaving me back at the USB Drive Mode screen! My gut feeling is that the screensaver is maybe kicking in but think I have switched it off and also stopped powerd and netwatchd (not sure what these do but thinking they are to do with power management) Has anyone seem this before? Cheers Dave |
