Well, sort of
![]() Just too many variables in play. I'm still having issues running in normal mode with the custom column deleted. I'll just continue to run in debug mode until I have more time to troubleshoot. |

This might help you narrow it down. I'm running Mint 14 with Cinnamon 1.6 and a library with not one but two yes/no custom columns and I don't see the problem you're seeing.
Which makes me think it's either the changing of the icon size (combined with the above) or the removing of items from the toolbar (ditto). I can play around with this tonight and see if I can reproduce your problem. |

Hmm. I thought I'd replied to this earlier.
Anyway. I tried various things last night, including re-enabling desktop effects (which I know causes issues), but couldn't reproduce what you're seeing unfortunately. |

Ah well... thanks for trying.
The fact that you're using the exact same setup as me with no problems, gives me hope that I can get it worked out somehow. |

I am running Calibre on Mint Linux 14 KDE edition without any problems.
I use custom columns. One is Yes/No column - very much like your "read" column and the other column is rating - 0 to 5 stars. Still no problems. I am running the latest version of binary install from the Calibre homepage. |

Yay, at last a worthy reason to register!
I'm running a similar setup to yours: Linux Mint 14, Cinnamon 1.6, AMD CPU, Radeon GPU; and the exact same problem has been plaguing me since Mint 13. The only solution I found so far was to minimize calibre to the tray then restore it, ten times out of ten it results in a normal sized window. Running calibre in debug mode seems to have no effect on the issue, it still starts with the miniaturized interface. Though, for me the problem only occurs if I close calibre and try to reopen it without rebooting. That is, the interface is normal the first time I start calibre. I use the modern interface, have 1 plugin (Count pages) installed, and added 2 columns (Format, Words). Screenshot with the debug log Let me know if I can be of any help. |

Interesting!
I almost never reboot, but I'll be curious to see if mine behaves the same as yours (first launch after reboot work fine). Thanks for the input. I'll see if configuring calibre to minimize to the tray has any effect (the minimize/close button is so hard to find/click when in "miniature mode"). But for whatever reason, debug mode works for me—the majority of the time anyway. |

My bad, I meant the taskbar
![]() As fun as it is to navigate in miniature mode, clicking on the calibre button in the taskbar should do the trick. EDIT: Read the first page of the thread and did a bit of experimentation. Custom columns deleted: no effect Changing interface style: no effect Changing icon size: no effect Closing calibre when maximized on the screen: no effect Closing calibre when snapped to the side: problem is gone Last edited by cornspicious; 02-14-2013 at 05:27 AM. |

I had this problem running Calibre on Ubuntu 12.10 with Cinnamon.
Disabling desktop effects fixed the problem for me. |
