I think reading is more fluid myself. If you watch a movie you associate a given actor with the characters but if you read a book the face of the character is for you to decide. For example if you mention "Gone With The Wind" most people see Clarke Gable's face when the character of Rhett Butler is mentioned.

Watching movie sometimes is good but I prefer to read books over my iPad or go for a movie.

No one is going to reward you for reading something that can't keep your interest. Not unless it's for a class, a reading group or you have to review it for some reason and its a mandatory read. Otherwise, you're the only person you have to please.

In this case, if you have to ask "why?" then find something you like better. It's your time, spend it well.

Yes - if you're having a hard time sticking with it, maybe it just isn't the book for you. Maybe you should try a different author, or a different subject. Even people who love to read fiction, and read all the time, sometimes come across a book that just doesn't hold their interest - even if it's supposedly a good book. Fiction opens new worlds to me and often leads to learning all I can about places, eras, and people that intrigue me.

• This month I read Moby Dick and have spent hours researching whales and whaling history.
  
• The novels of Georgette Heyer have led me to read nonfiction books about the Regency era, as well as enlightening fiction written during that time.
  
• Deon Meyer's mysteries have led to hours of reading about South African history, geography, and culture, as well as hours on Google Earth virtually travelling there. It all started with an Amazon freebie.
  
• Alexander McCall's Ladies #1 Detective series inspired such a fascination with Botswana that I now want to go there. More hours on Google Earth.
  
• Earlier this month Clair Huffaker's The Cowboy and The Cossack (Thanks, Apache!) led me to research of Cossacks, Tartars, and Siberia. It also led me to further research about Vladivostok, a city that intrigued me when last month I read The 100-year-old Man Who Climbed Out of The Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson (Thanks, KumaBjorn!). Jonasson's entertaining romp through history also inspired lots of reading about Sweden and even cooking Swedish dishes.
  
• Karin Fossum's Inspector Sejer mysteries have led me to spending almost as much time learning about Norway as I spent reading the books. Now I want to go there, too.

These are only a handful of examples from the decades I've loved reading and learning from fiction. Probably 175 of the 186 books I've read so far this year have been fiction. They have enriched my life and inspired curiosity.

reality, only in the minds of the producers. They are mostly paid participants. Not for me. Kinda like Pro Wrestling.

While it might be more educational, non-fiction books just don't appeal to me as much. In my mind, the events already happened in real life and there's not really anything to imagine. While reading fiction, I love having all the characters in my head and playing out the action. It's more compelling.
