But it seems a little odd to brand them the same way for the two different issues.

The issue with Apple maps is that it incorrectly showed a town miles away from it's real location, in a dangerously desolate area, actually leading people into dangerous situations from which they actually needed to be rescued.

Google maps offer correct information about a road, but the police seem to be worried that because it's not a very good road, the extra traffic that might be routed there by Google may potentially cause a hazard.

Seems like a very different issue.

Also, it's very easy for Apple to correct it's issue...just fix the map, but I wonder how Google would have to address it's concern? Mark an open, public road as something else? Exclude it from routing even when it would be the correct choice? Implement some sort of "narrow dangerous road" flag? Maybe the road should just be closed or improved rather that just hoping people don't start using it more?

As I pointed elsewhere, when you only sell high end devices, your customer satisfaction is bound to be higher than when you sell across all tiers, as Android does. But it is telling that, despite all this gaffes, they still get high customer satisfaction. Tells more about the PR machine than the devices themselves.

And it keeps on giving...

Quote:
Just when Apple thought it couldn't get any worse for its beleaguered Maps app, which has been leading motorists deep into the desert when they try to find the town of Mildura, The Register can reveal another SNAFU that could send travellers to an even less hospitable destination.

The site in question is Mount Isa, a town in the interior of Queensland. Famed for its colossal mines and attendant facilities, the town is home to around 23,500 souls.
(...)
Google Maps, for what it is worth, places the nearest road to the spot Apple picks for the town as being 141 kms from downtown Mount Isa.

The problem isn't with Apple's machines. They are only machines like the machines of Samsung (which makes many of the parts of Apple machines), and all the other manufacturers using nameless Chinese and Malaysian parts.

The problem is that to sell it's overly priced products, Apple has fostered a climate and sense of "we are so superior to everyone else" that registers well with a certain class of buyers. It becomes "Apple will take care of us and we are better than the rest."
I think this attitude also spills over into the corporate structure of Apple also. Arrogance is one word for it.

With all this, of course many Apple consumers feel that their Apple machine is superior to common sense and those stupid road signs.

And by the way,

"we don't need no stinking maps" either.

Wow.

That anyone could think this, let alone believe it, is just sad.

If someone has feelings of inferiority they should seek help. Blaming their emotional state on some strangers choice of gadget is an even better reason.

There was no expression of an inferiority complex or of blaming others for their emotional state. But if someone is that devoted to Apple products that they take a negative opinion of them so personally, well, that is what is sad.
