when to buy the kindle - please help

There are many topics on the forum about pw and its deffects. It looks like QA is bad on these - you can get a perfect device, you can have some with colored blotches, shadows, blurry text, very uneven lightening and/or bright spots. Roughly 25% get these, according to some vote here. The rest either get good screens or satisfactory one.
If I'd be buying pw, I'd wait at least few more months, paying close attention to complains here, when people buying new devices seem to be generally happy about it, then will order.

I honestly think that the majority of these are due to unrealistic expectations as to what this lighting technology will achieve. I strongly suspect that were those of us who are perfectly satisfied with our PWs to show them to those who consider theirs to be unsatisfactory, those people would find ours to be equally unsatisfactory.

That's correct too, I think there are people, that consider "good" screens "bad" and vice versa. But there is something, I have never seen any other kindle receiving so many negative posts, so many returns. "Paperwhite" surely goes a long way to set very high expectations, but there is something wrong in there too. I don't own one, but I have seen fair share of pics and lot of them count as "color screen"

I agree about waiting. I had 3 PWs and all had poor screens varying from one to another on how bad they were. After the second bad replacement I decided to get a refund and wait until I saw a change in production. The stage lighting on the bottom I could accept but not the colorations and washed out fuzzy text. I have a K4s that is in use until the issues have been resolved.

Maybe it's skewed by the same people being unhappy over and over again, but there has certainly been a fair number of photos posted of screens with green & red hues on them, or with light leaking at the bottom left corner of the screen (as if there is another LED there). I can quite clearly see them in a lot of the photos (although there are some that don't look too bad), and I'm not light/colour sensitive. These are not unrealistic expectations, it's poor quality control.

I agree it is unrealistic to think one would be lucky enough to receive a PW without coloration washed out text excessive light leaks and specks. Why on earth would anyone think they would get what was advertised.
