Book length is irrelevant. I always have multiple books going, so how long it takes me to finish any particular tome doesn't matter.

Heck no! Ever since I was a kid I have liked long books, I'm more of the mind that the shorter a book, the faster it "runs out".

That said, there are times when if I know I won't have a lot of spare reading time that I will select a shorter book from my library. The rest of the time, I indulge at whim, length of book does not matter.

This sums up my opinion. I am more interested in the content than number of pages. I also find that reading lengthy books on an ereader seems to go by so much faster than paper for me.

Depends on the book. I kind of like to wallow in a big chunky epic fantasy. The middle is the best place to be. For fantasy and SF there is a cost to starting a new story as you have to adjust your mental gearing. But for classic crime, they're almost all under 200 pages, and that feels right, too. They cover much shorter time frames, there's no world-building, and the encompassing series tend to go on for ever.

If I'm reading a book that is both big and slow, though, I do start to think about what else I could be reading.

You can do with Amazon; it tells you the number of pages that the equivalent paper book has.

I prefer books that fall in the 350-600 page range. If they are longer, I give a little more thought to whether or not I want to take it on. When books are shorter, I often end up wishing the author would have written more or feel the book was overpriced for its length.

I generally love long books because I often finish reading a book and wish there were more. But some books do drag on. Of course some short books drag on, so it's more about writing than length.

I just realized something when looking at page counts... the current book I'm reading, Vicomte de Bragelonne, is actually one of the ten longest novels ever written.

No wonder it's taking me so long to get through it. I've been reading almost non-stop the whole Three Musketeers series since the summer. Such a long and fun ride.

IMHO fluff that just gets the word count up and does not move the tale forward (or sideways, gotta love mis-direction) is a big candidate for my DNeR list
