Are you for real? Verizon have an iron grip on what goes on their network, if you want your device to be sold on Verizon, you have to pull your pants down, bend over and "enjoy the ride".

Not sure iPhone updates are held by Verizon.

As others have said, nothing has ever gone on the Verizon network until it is thoroughly vetted by Verizon. In fact, all of the American networks seem to operate that way as much as possible. As an exception, at least in the case of T-Mobile, they did sell me a SIM to use with my European phone on their US network, when I am there.

Ha! The first thing I thought of was, "he's on Verizon, of course he's getting a raw deal on the OS." Verizon locked down OS's since way back when (anyone else here 'free' their Motorola RAZR from their tyranny back then? Howard's forum FTW!).
But the general complaint is valid. Android has serious pros and cons. It is fractured into so many devices that it becomes a weakness or sore spot. At a minimum, we do have an incentive to buy direct Google-ly devices (e.g. Nexus brand) because they will, eventually, see some OS upgrades. |

It was passing out of fashion then, though it did last almost to the year 2000 in America according to some of my old buddies. |

It is interesting to hear all the complaints about Verizon on this forum.
Usually Verizon is the gold standard. It is supposed to have the best network and towers. My sister and brother-in-law, devout Apple Mac adherents and supplicants still waited, though impatiently, for the iPhone to be available on Verizon before they got theirs. I have used most all the cellular services including some that aren't here anymore at least by their original names, and Verizon seems the best. |

The problem with the Nexus line is that if you want a tablet (which are more relevant to e-reading) it only comes in 7". There is no 10" Nexus tablet.

What most people don't get though is that Apple only releases a new phone/OS every year but they keep the details of what goes into that release very quite. They build in time for the networks to test the phones before they announce the release and if they do run into issues they push the release out but don't tell you why. Google on the other hand are very open about what is going on and they release the code when they are through with it, but before the networks are done. In the case of the Nexus on Verizon there were a few issues that they had that have been fixed so it is ready to go. Verizon is known as the best for the masses for a reason because there network just works. To make that happen they test the crap out of every thing and there tests cover everything. But this means that for the person that just has the have the Very latest weather it is tested or not are not going to be happy. Personally while I would like to have Jelly Bean ASAP on my Nexus I want it to just work with out hassle and that means waiting for Verizon to finish testing and for Google to fix what they find wrong. This process has taken about 2-3 months which is not to bad. |
