It's probably the circuit board substrate or some part of the key membrane in the process of cracking and failing.
OK, here's where technology gets a bad name. I dropped the K3 yesterday and the back popped loose. I reclosed it, and the two misbehaving buttons are like new again, smooth as silk. Maybe I should drop it more often? If I drop it often enough would it turn into a high-end laptop?

You mean you didn't try to fix it by hitting it with a hammer?

One good rule to live life by is. "If it ain't broke don't fix it"!

Those that hold close to that rule through life, will see the wisdom of it in the long term.

Curses! The crunchy noises are back. The 'drop it' fix appears to have been only temporary. I tried going by Best Buy to look at a PW, but they had a sign that said (more politely0 'Too late sucker'.

I think I'll cripple along for a while more. The K4B is looking better and better though, the longer screen-gate goes on.

I think that, with use, whatever dirt is causing the noises will work itself out. If not, the cost for a replacement keyboard is US$9.95 plus $2.90 for shipping:

http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Amazon...d-p-20678.html

P.S. But first call Amazon customer service. They might replace it for free even if past warranty expiration.
