I still have your comment in my mailbox
![]() I have to say, that I'm really an old UNIX expert and do not need much technical advice how to mount the USB devices of the T1 to my FreeBSD laptop. I can do this without any problem, can see the dirs and files there and copy over any other files to the T1, for example PDF files, etc. This is just to point out that I know of calibre, but do not need it. I"m a fan of the UNIX/FreeBSD command line ![]() I can even make the T1 available as Windows drive E: to the wine emulator and can copy/import ePub file from the T1 into ADE running in wine and read them there (which is not what I want). I learned now (here with the help of the forum) how to import purchased epub ebooks into the ADE running in wine and can read them there. The last missing "link" now is either how to make a DRM'ed epub file available in the T1 to be able to read it there. I did a lot of test to somehow register my T1 to the ADE running in wine, with no luck. Or the other way would be to follow the hints about de-DRM the epub files and just copy them over the usual (command line) way to the T1. Thanks matthias |

I think the missing link is you need to authorise reader through Sony reader software. You might have to find pc to do this

Just associate acsm with ADE and doubleclick. How hard can you make it. Never had an issue with regards to that. Are you sure it is the software and not the user?

start ADE type Ctrl-o in the window of file, locate the acsm file and say "open" if it does not work, ask yourself it is an issue of you or the software |

It is you. When you type Ctrl+o it clearly says you can open n apdf or an epub via this manner. The acsm extention is not an option, so don't expect it to work.

In the case of guru, it's user error. Windows works and a proper ADE install associates ACSM files properly. |

You get an error message while opening, that should tell you that there is something wrong with the file. Perhaps the error could be made more clear, but that is another discussion. It is not a bug, it is an user error. |

Anyway, aside of opinions about good/bad Windows, for reading a DRM epub in you T1 you have to authorize it with the Sony program, not with ADE (pesky thing, but what can I say). If you have Linux, I think your best option is looking for Apprentice Alf and, later, copying the book to T1 or looking for a Windows PC, installing Sony Software, creating a Sony account (with the same email address than ADE account) and authorizing your T1. Later, you can copy any DRM epub to your T1.

I've installed 'Sony Reader for PC' as well in wine and it connects fine to the Adobe account and one can import the same acsm file and read the epub as well there. I could until now not mange to get the T1 visible in the Sony Reader software in wine. This perhaps has todo with the problem, that the T1 on plug-in shows at least two FAT file systems, one SETTINGS and one READER below the assigned DOS drive letters. When I tried it last Sunday with wine, I was not aware of the drive SETTINGS, perhaps this is already all magic and when I mount both file systems in UNIX and attach both to the wine emulator, the Sony Reader software will see the T1 correctly. I will try to figure this out, to have at the end a complete tool chain which works without a crappy Windows system. Meanwhile I installed the Sony Reader software on a Win7 laptop, authorized the T1 there and at least now I am able to copy with UNIX tools only the DRM epub file from the ADE space into the reader. When I have the last piece ready (T1 visible to Sony Read software in wine) I will write a complete how to which should help others in the same situation. Thanks to all who gave helping comments. Activation via Sony Reader Store / Alternative to using Wine
I'm afraid you won't be able to activate Adobe DRM with Wine. The Reader software appears to do something low level with the USB device that needs more driver support than just for USB mass storage. If you manage to do it anyway, please be sure to report back how you did it!
A possible alternative can be to have the U.S. Sony Reader Store create an Adobe ID for you. This works without a Windows host, directly from the Reader: In the settings menu, switch the Reader's country to U.S. Then connect to the U.S. Reader Store using the button on the home screen. The first time you do this, the store will guide you through the creation of an Adobe ID and activates the Reader. You'll end up with a new Adobe ID locked to your device that has no password set. To use this ID with other Readers or Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), go to Adobe's website and reset the ID's password. Then use the ID and the password they email you to activate ADE as well before you use it to download new content. Warning: This method will render all DRM'd content purchased with other (previously generated) Adobe IDs inaccessible (until you relogin with your old ID). Apprentice Alf may be able to help. Let us know how it went! Good luck. Last edited by altruizine; 09-19-2012 at 08:27 AM. |
