I read Harbour this year. It was pretty good actually. I've seen the movie Let the Right One In, but haven't read it yet.

You're right about tragic figures. The main character in Harbour is pretty damn tragic. His landscape/setting was quite bleak too, but I love bleak settings in books.

I read two or three of John Ajvide Lindqvist's books and I thought the first one was really good and the best of them.
