Kindle 5s? - Page 2

Wait a minute, aren't the non-touch from 2011 and the non-touch from 2012 slightly different in chips? If so, can they have the same FW? That web page might just be a booboo. Lots of times the web pages are designed by folks who are not fully informed. The image showing both Kindles could be incorrect. we will have to watch it and see if it changes.

I am totally confused but it says

Scroll down until you see the photo of the new Kindle basic with the font dialog window displayed. it only shows the old three choices of Regular, Condensed, and Sans Serif. So it doesn't have the new fonts that the PW has.

strange because they specifically said "new fonts" for the black kindle.

If the new Kindle does use the same FW as last years Kindle, then the good news is that it is easy to hack in more fonts without jailbreaking. They made the the Kindle Touch impossible to hack the fonts without jailbreaking.

Actually that is no longer the case with the latest firmware. You can now add your own fonts without Jail breaking.

I was informed of this the other day.

If the New K4 uses the same firmware adding a custom font is super easy to do.

oh I didn't know that about the KT. do you have the link to where you saw that?

Are talking about the Kindle Touch? That would be cool, assuming it isn't that convoluted process I saw a few weeks ago that ultimately can screw up the fonts in dialog boxes and menus. (I think it required editing the hex or something equally frustrating.) I loved the easy way we could add fonts to the K4. I hope it is similar.

It's in the Developer's forum. I was informed by the maker of the Font hack about this so I went looking... it looks easy enough to do.
Let me go find it. Here you go! this should get you started on the hunt. No real guide yet.

Yes It is here. It's a bit hard to read but it explains the gist of it. If you are familiar with the old K3 way of adding a font. You should understand the naming conventions of the fonts.

Definitely hard to read! I like what @geekmaster told him, "Your strange writing style confuses both human readers AND computer software."

I will try to make sense out of it and give it a try. If it works I'll rewrite the instructions where humans can actually understand them.

That would be great! I know the KT is discontinued but alot of people already own them that would love this info. Not everyone goes into the Developer's forum. Who knows maybe it will work on the Paperwhite too.
