Dayum! Guess I'm happy I'm not trying to connect through a Linux system. This is not a 'good thing' to have happen. Have you passed this information on to Bookeen?

Ouch. That's you problem then; if the Cybook can't find that file (in your case because your internal flash won't even mount) the result is a display like that.

If you can't get the flash to work at all, it's a warranty job I'm afraid :-(

I do not think you have to give up so soon. I would try to reformat the internal drive and build a new filesystem and then copy my backup of the system files to it. If you do not have a backup somebody here can probably supply the files.

I also suppos a firmware "upgrade" will solve the problem. And if you mail Bookeen they seem to distribute them.

Maybe somebody that has got it could distribute it here so people have it available?

We'd need Bookeen's permission for that. They may not wish to have it available to non-customers.

Looks like that when I get my Cybook, the best thing I can do first (after charging the battery) is make a backup of the system files.

Anyone have the procedure written down for Windows to do this?

Thanks everybody. I have to be away from home for a few days, but this weekend, I'll try connecting the Cybook to a Windows PC, and see if I can retrieve the files. If not, I'll email Bookeen and hope for the best.

Thanks Tompe! Connecting to a Windows PC did help. I've just formatted the flash drive in FAT format, and now I can access it, both on Windows and on my own Linux machine.

Now I understand I have to rebuild the file system and copy the system files. Unfortunately I didn't back them up before.

(I have a backup of my ebooks, but not of the Cybook system files. Silly me.)

So I'm going to mail Bookeen to ask them for a copy, and I hope it won't take too much time.

If you have formatted it as a FAT you ought to have a file system on it. Especially if you can mount it. You could probably have used mkdosfs on linux to create the file system on the partition.

DiabloNL : thanks! You have pm.

Tompe: You are right, I meant that the system files were missing. I managed to format the internal flash disk in FAT, and now I can mount and read the it with Linux, so the file system is there.
