Can you purchase directly from a T2? I really don't know. If you can I would give her written fair warning, make her sign a copy for your own records, that you will start purchasing books from HER account if she doesn't make the switch. make sure the warning states that, because you have tried several times to have the device removed from her account you are left with no choice but to purchase books through her account. If she tried to say you are stealing from her you can explain that she has the option of removing the device.

Other than that, I would keep pestering her until she deregisters just to get rid of you. But I'm a pain like that. My son told me last night I won arguments with he and his sister because I was the most stubborn and they just gave up. If you make yourself enough of a nuisance she'll cave. She doesn't have any other option because she can't claim harassment or it will come out that she is withholding a vital function of a device she sold.

In most states, Small Claims or Magistrate Courts have small filing fees. And when you file you put in for your filing fee and all expenses you have incurred.

You need her password to make a purchase. You could always keep clicking on the lost password option and having them reset the password (using her registered email address). That will eventually make her see the light. If there is no lost password option just keep entering nonsense passwords until they lock the device out. You are in the driver's seat.

There is a way to do a Hard factory reset which erases all previously entered stuff and makes you need to re-register it in your own account.

I recently did this (actually my husband did) with my T1 to give it to my daughter. The instructions are pretty specific and involves pushing buttons in an exact way, but that is so it makes it hard to do accidentally.

I can't remember how to do it but maybe search this forum to learn how?

Formatting internal memory will delete all of the prior owner's data -- it will be just like the device was purchased new. Doing so should also remove any tie to prior owner's Sony reader online account.

I checked my PRS-T1 to identify the steps to reformat the device. To factory reset the PRS-T1:
* On home screen, press arrow (lower right) once to go to page 2
* On page 2, see Settings (at bottom of page)
* Press Settings
* On Settings page, press Initialization
* On Initialization page, press Format Memory
* On Format Memory page, press Internal Memory
* On Format Internal Memory page, press YES

OP- check the Sony forum for some help in doing that big total reset wipe Spindle Girl speaks of. Or, try as Mrs. Coach suggests. That's pretty good, too.

I finally got thru to Sony ... surprise on Holiday non the less.... But no help on a Sunday not to mention M-F that I been trying ALL month!!

Anyway I had to convince them I got it Legal! Sent them the emails where she sid was Sony fault. After that They had no problems straighten it out! So alls well!!

Lesson learned .... Never again will I buy Used! To many headaches! BUT IFyou buy used Get Proof.... In my caes lucky we were exchanging emails! Also Make Sure their personal stuff is not just Off the reader its Hard Rest to Factory!

It wasnt just the purchse of books I couldnt do she Removed the Guide & the free books preloaded! The Libraries wouldnt reconise my setting either! So I couldnt down load them either! Adobe wouldnt link either! And several other things!

I still think 99% of the time buying used is o.k. I have bought 2 used Kindles from e-bay and de-registering them is a slice of pie. One had been done already, the other I did from the unit, AND was able to keep the books the previous owner had purchased. Suppose I should mention, I bought a K4 & received a K3-keyboard instead ...but I was more than happy about that... It's become my #1 e-reader.

So sorry this happened to you, dear Katie. I'd say next time, perhaps buy thru e-bay where at least you have some sort of back-up if anything goes wrong. Buyer protection & all that. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from the flea market on MR...

The details for a hard reset are quite simply in the online manual for goodness sake ......

Why on earth didn't the contributor think to look it up himself ?
Or is it the "I don't need a manual, I never use them, I always work it out myself ......" syndrome ?

I have a family member that is of this persuasion, and it drives me crazy - it's like looking at the manual is an old-fashioned approach to getting a gizmo to work, and a weakness, intead of a sensible way to acquaint yourself with the thing.

And, of course, ocassionally provide answers to any problems which may crop up ....

Yeah, all it took for us was a very simple websearch using 'Hard Reset for Sony PRS T1" or something like that, and we found it.

What warning? To make sure it's already reset to factory default when you buy used? Learn how to use Google? Plenty of people have found solutions for you so this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
