I would rather place the last three tools used on the bottom bar where the current tool is and let the user select from there instead of loading a selection screen every time. That interferes with your workflow.

This and using the joystick for incremental moves of the page (left right, up down) would make the current reader perfect from my point of view.

PS: it is never perfect, I would still ask for lines, rectangles and circles for sketching :-D

Sure, last 3 tools icons (or user selected 2 icons and current one) would be better. Just one click and no waiting for menu being displayed.

My suggestion works (or could work, if long press of menu button releases that special menu) for all readers despite having a pen or not. Yours only for pen enabled...

The best would be to implement your and my suggestion. It would dramaticaly improve workflow on all devices, despite a pen.

Why do you need lines, rectangles and circles? You can draw them by hand. It looks better (in my opinion) even in a presentation. But OK, different people, different tastes, different needs.

because many time I scribble over the text when I actually try to underline text.
So to be more precise, I need the option to underline text

OK, I understand. I do it by hand and prefer to do it so. But sure, different users different preferences. That is what makes SW development difficult.

The practical need for this feature is confirmed by all the PDF software that allows annotations. At this moment I believe we are far beyond the point were we need to debate what are the basic needs for a PDF reader. There is a standard set of features that is available in all the commercial or freeware implementations
