Just to be clear, Strahan's series through Baen is completely different than Gadner's series.
I like both. Big props to Baen (as always) for daring to sell DRM free Will buy Gardner's series in ebook if/when it is offered DRM free...but I have noticed how many dead tree editions can be had used for pennies, still less than $5 when you factor in shipping. |

Star Wars is the only REAL science fiction (I say, pointing to my sig).
![]() Seriously, the thing that is great about these series is that they show how broad and diverse sci-fi/fantasy can be. I think it's a shame that space westerns are given so little slack by "serious" sci-fi folks, especially critics -- a good story is a good story, period, whether it is a space western, space opera, cyberpunk, RPG-style fantasy or one of the more exotic varieties of sci-fi/fantasy. I've always felt that criticizing space westerns for having the tropes of the genre and just dismissing the stories is a lot like criticizing Victorian romance for not having enough submarine battles... For example, some (many) westerns are awful. But some, like Eastwood's Unforgiven, transcend the limitations of the genre. |

![]() And yes, it's always a trade-off for me between used and ebook (particularly when it's handled by amazon and free shipping with prime. I don't believe there are any of the first editions available thought other than at outrageous collector's prices and I don't really care about that, I just want to read the summary and the stories. BTW I read the summary of 1983 and wow, what a difference 30 years makes! Last edited by kennyc; 08-19-2012 at 07:12 AM. |

I thought Stargate:Sg-1 was pretty good. Though I'm a long time fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars too. lol. Each has its good and bad points I imagine.

![]() +1 for B5, firefly & stargate as great sci fi shows. As we started off on sci fi antholgies, gotta add the Outer Limits in there. Please replace "sci fi" with "SF", "Science Fiction" or the words of your choice, not havin' that argument again. |

With anthologies in general "best" often means the best they can get the rights for and is within their budget.
