I think they should merge them with the public school libraries. That way, they could have more branches but it would cost less since the schools are already heated, cooled etc. even without the books. And the schools would benefit from more books (because they could redistribute the library's books with the school's books) and from having a trained librarian on hand (which the school may not be able to afford on its own).

A local coffee shop isn't part of the library network, but has its own mini-library. A book shelf where people are free to take books from and contribute to.

A nifty idea, and convenient for local patrons, but I don't see it replacing libraries.
