I still feel better applying a skin... but it's an original thought.

Update: I have now applied the abrasive block method proposed by Ashen, and I am very happy with the result. I found the block easy to apply, and the result was almost satisfactory already after the first gentle skimming over the bezel on each side.

Totally worth the ~10 EUR I spent for having the block mailed to my home.

Thanks again for your post, Ashen!

Cratex Abrasive is similar US made product. I first bought some at San Diego Hardware on 5th St. in 1972. That store was founded in 1892 and is still the oldest family owned business in San Diego California. Going into that store felt like stepping back into history.

I finally got enough sun at home to see the problem ^^ Luckily, mine is in a case. (I have the white one) It's awfully shiny, but I guess I don't really mind since I don't intend to ever use it without a case. Having cats at home who like walking ON everything, including my iPad (which has a cover...), I can't live it lying around "naked". And in the bag, it's out of the question. Keys, pens, endless stuff which could damage it.
I might put a sticker on it, just because there are some really pretty stuff out there. But I like white shiny Sony stuff (I have the Vaio P in pearl white, which is the prettiest thing ever)

Finally got fed up with the distraction of the glare off the black bezel when reading in sunlight or using the book cover light. I was really starting to regret not having bought the Kobo instead. First tried 400 grit automotive wet/dry sandpaper which almost did the trick but left faint swirl marks. Rather than buy a finer grit, tried 0000 steel wool which I already had on hand - absolutely smooth dull finish, no swirl marks. So save your money, just buy extra fine steel wool. You can use a small piece for detail work in the corners.

A medium/soft rubber block (approx. 3 1/4" x 2") impreg- nated with an abrasive. Can be cut into a required shape or used in the block form. Suitable for cleaning an area of a surface or simply to create a satin finish.
Thanks for this great Idea. I have now sanded mine and it has worked great

The description of the "rubber sandpaper" sounds very similar to the Mr Clean's Magic Eraser (which, of course, would be a lot easier to get a hold of).

Has anybody tried that perhaps?

I must be pretty lucky not to be bothered by the shine or sheen of my red T1. I've had it almost 10 months now and I just don't see the problem. I guess I just have old eyes!

The reason I sanded mine was that with the lighted cover the top of reader would glare and irritate me. I think it actually looks good sanded.

The glossy bezel has never bothered me, in fact I had not even thought about it until I saw some on here complaining about it.

However, some of the books I read do irritate me: I think I might sand the screen to see if that effects a cure?

When I was looking to buy my first ereader and shopping around, the Nook was quickly ruled out after trying it out in the store. Even though the glare wasn't on the text, I still found myself unconsciously and constantly trying to tilt the reader to avoid that glare. And that was in a store, I can't even imagine how bad it would be outside. But that's me, I have very light sensitive eyes. So any shiny bezel on an ereader would rule it out right there for me.

The black T-2 at least is matte so much better, but the buttons... while I rarely use them, just for accessing menus really, I'm not sure if they'd bother me or not, I'm guessing they wouldn't be an issue. But I still don't like the curved bottom of the reader, I'd rather it be straight across.

So the T-2 really has me still in love with my trusty 350s, both of which are still going strong. If they died though, they'd most likely be replaced with the black T-2 at this point.

Don't sand the screen, sand the books, otherwise you'll not feel bright nor glossy
