All the other stuff mentioned I was already well aware of, having read manufacturer specs, instructions and guides aplenty. However, I was never able to find any mention of trickle charging vs blast charging, hence the question.

There's not. This is bogus, I don't know where you are getting this, but if you have an actual reference let's see it. Sounds like urban legend or rumors to me.
