I must have been blind the first time I stepped through the css or I would have pointed it out.

define the blockquote?
.calibre21 only defined the blockquote listed as <blockquote class="calibre21"> which may be an overall blockquote covering the span of the whole book or covering the span of each chapter or page. Mobi files often use blockquotes to simulate margins and this is what you get when a ePub is converted from one.
