I would be surprised if there were any truly revolutionary screen technology that the MR collective didn't already know about. Particularly that would be available to a smaller player like B&N.
On the other hand, there are a lot of improvements that could be made to existing 7" screens. Increasing pixel density would be nice, for example...is there a 7" tablet with a ppi of greater than 160 or so? |

Maybe a 7" Mirasol? Perhaps a flexible e-ink display? I am not worried about lock down, that will be hacked within days.

The downside is that a faster update means a higher power consumption, so I'd rather stick with my Kindle than have it burn through the battery doing stupid page-turning effects. |

The Nexus 7 is 216 ppi (1280x800). I suspect it'll become the new standard. Until now, the standard was 169 ppi (1024x600); seen in the Galaxy Tabs, Kindle Fire, Nook Color/Tablet, and Kobo Vox.

I want B&N to succeed. We need as many viable players as possible out there. I hope they do have something truly amazing coming out. It's a tough industry.

Tapsense is revolutionary, but I'm not sure it will sell many tablets. I've heard Apple is looking at a screen that integrates touch and display so that a second layer will not be required. Supposedly this will be part of an iPhone this fall, so that makes it available, at least. In theory, this would reduce weight and thickness while improving the display (since you are not viewing through a touch layer).

Maybe its this tech no longer need to touch the screen to make it do anything
http://leapmotion.com/ I usually don't order stuff before they are released in brick and mortar stores but I could not resist booking one of these. Would love to be able to use this with my xbmc htpc. |

Thanks, Dopedangel, for the video link. I don't play video games but the Leap technology could make me interested.

I'll reserve judgment on the "revolutionary" part if you don't mind.
