No, but I hate signing up for stuff without knowing what I'm getting into ahead of time. I'd like to pick out a number of favorite books and then figure out the most economical way to get them.

Most of the books generally show up with that $7.49 tag, but some show up as free if I join. More confusion there. Can't they just be straightforward?

It's a no risk proposition and you can pick out two full price books of your choice for signing up. You have 30 days to decide if you want to keep your membership. Once signed up, you can take advantage of this sale. If you decide not to renew during the 30-day trial, you can cancel without incurring any type of penalty. Keep in mind that renewal is automatic and you must intervene ahead of time to stop it. All books you've acquired are yours to keep no matter what you decide.

What I love is they send you a email of the titles that are on your wishlist that are included in the sale. It's a great feature!.

I got two of the books that were on my wishlist for $5.95 a piece!

They are DRMd. Like ebooks, there are software solutions that will enable a person to liberate them for use on any device.

Unfortunately we (I am including myself here as I am in the some boat as you) are not considered "members" in Audible's eyes. Only people with a monthly credits plan are considered "members." If you are a member then you will have a "members only" tab (or something close to that name) at the top of the Audible home page.

It's a shame Audible shuns those of us who buy a-la-carte. It is that (and the DRM) that keeps me buying mostly from other sites.

I don't have one of the credit plans and I get these offers. I initially signed up for a free 30-day trial. Then I converted it to a 6 month Kindle Special Offer promo. When that ended, I cancelled my membership. Evidently, I still have some type of membership (probably the Basic plan); but don't pay anything, nor do I get any credits.

Audible lists 4 types of membership:

• Gold Membership Plan: $11.47~$14.95 per credit
• Platinum Membership Plan: $9.56~$12.46 per credit
• AudibleListener Light: no credits, but ~$10 fee per year
• Basic Membership Plan: no credits, no fees

The AudibleListener Light Plan is available only on an annual basis and only to Gold Members and Platinum Members who want to downgrade their plan type. AudibleListener Light Plan members do not receive Membership Credits (defined below) but a Gold Member or Platinum Member converting to the AudibleListener Light Plan may have AudibleListener Rollover Credits that they can rollover when they downgrade. If you downgrade to the AudibleListener Light Plan, each year, on the yearly renewal date, Audible will charge your credit card the yearly plan fee.

The Basic Membership Plan is available only to existing Basic Members. The Basic Membership is no longer available to current AudibleListener Members. Any changes to the Basic Membership Plan will be communicated to existing Basic Members by Audible via email.

I went and checked my membership status and it just says I discontinued my membership. I don't think I was ever offered a "Basic Membership Plan." I've had an account since before Amazon acquired them, so I guess this was never an option for me.

Right, it's apparently one of the plans that's no longer available, but they are letting people who have say on it.

After my recent trial membership I went on the light member ship. I figured $9.99 a year was worth it to get sale offers like this and credit discount offers, which I hear happen now and then.

That is what I will probably do, too. If they still offer it, I don't see this option on the website.

I have only gotten audio books from the library. Could someone explain, please, how DRM works with Audible books--how would I be restricted?

You can authorize up to 4 different computers and 3 different devices of each type (ie. 3 different Sansa clips and 3 different iThings at the same time). Once the devices are authorized you don't even know that there is DRM, all the Audible files will play without you doing anything else.
