Yes, you guys have answered my question.
![]() But what if you're going 2-3 days without reading? Should it be turned off (Or should I say, mostly off)? |

I've left mine in sleep mode for weeks. Really no reason to turn it completely off unless you will not be using it for several weeks.

My KK doesn't go to sleep anymore
Good morning,
Just a small problem. I posted here as my question has to do with "sleep" I just noticed that my Keyboard Kindle 3 does not got to sleep anymore by itself after 10 mn and when I briefly move the power button, there is not action. It means the screen stays on the last read page, whatever it is. Home, or the page of a book. So far, I didn't notice any other problems. Is there a simple solution or should I forget about the problem and keep on reading my books, forgetting the access to the screensavers ? Thank you in advance, Jeanphi |

Although not a serious problem, if you want to fix it, you should ask in the Dev Corner forum. Others have had this problem, and there are various ways that it has been solved. In the very worst case, you can restore a known good system image to it (documented in the Dev Corner "simple debricking" sticky thread). Members there would be glad to help you solve you problem. Or you could just live with it, as it really just a minor annoyance (unless it really does discharge your battery too fast). |

Unless you've been making mods to your Kindle's firmware, whatever the problem is, a factory reset should fix it. You'll need to reload your content, so make a copy of the "documents" folder first.

Thank you for your answers.
As Geekmaster said, this is just a minor annoyance and I think I will live with it. Beeing very happy with the Kindle as it was, I haven't try to tinker with it, so I don't even know how to do a factory reset (don't worry, I'm sure I can find the information, if I look for it). Well, I was just ready to do this factory reset, when my Kindle just went to sleep by itself, having stayed "awake" for around 5 days.
So there was a glitch somewhere which disappeared. Anyway thank you very much, Jeanphi |

The OPs issue sounds like self-solving problem. If you leave wifi on, and just leave the Kindle alone for a week or two, the battery will completely drain, and the unit will be 100% OFF with no current left maintain anything, as evidence by the long tree-boy boot when you go to use again!
I've accidentally followed this use pattern myself several times, I had not realized people wanted to do it on purpose. :-) I'm not seriously recommending this...this is REALLY bad battery management and would shorten the life of the battery a lot. |

I have had two of my kindles discharge so far that it took some serious debricking methods just to get them to charge again. No actual changes had to be made to the kindle. Just trick into into charging (barely) enough to get it to boot to fastboot mode (with MfgTool) when you could get a full recharge rather quickly.
The battery charger is (mostly) software based, and the bootloader depends on the battery having enough charge to boot the device (even when plugged in). Normal boot mode will power down before the battery is dangerously low, but if you leave it in diags mode, it can COMPLETELY drain the battery in a way that is not healthy for it. I know this from experience (more than once). And the kindle is essentially bricked (by all appearances) in that condition. ![]() |
