Special orders used to be a big deal at certain bookstores; in the early 90's, a bookstore I patronized had a full time position doing special orders. It usually took 2 weeks or so to get a book...but the fact you could get it at all was kind of a big deal.
However, when I lived in Germany, even the smallest bookstore could order something and get it in a day or two. |
