Itty Bitty Book Lite

With the Sony 505 cover you can easily clip an Itty Bitty Book Lite to it and not bother the spousal unit.

Yes this is a feature sadly lacking in the Iliad adn one of th very few grumbles I have in regard to the device.

I actually like curling up with my PRS 500 more than with a paper book. I think the people that wrote that article are either not bed-readers or haven't actually tried the devices at home. Playing with a few buttons in the office isn't the same as actually *using* it.

Well, I was off work yesterday, because I broke my left pinky toe (a valuable appendage!). And I curled up on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee and my Kindle, reading 3/4ths of Stephen King's "Duma Key". So there. ;-)

i *prefer* to curl up with a liseuse rather than a paper book. it's so much more comfortable for one-handed reading, and i can read in any position (in bed, on my side...) without worrying about the book falling closed, or having the prop up the heavy side, or the top half blocking the light... much more cuddly than a paper book (particularly a hardback, or an omnibus edition weighing 3 tonnes... )

One real "curlability" advantage not yet mentioned is the issue of reading with a cat in you lap. My Kindle 2 is so light that I can hold it one-handed over the recumbent feline, rather than trying to balance a hard cover pbook on top of a round furry moving cat who resents sharing attention with books.
Since I have 3 cats - lightness and portability is a real advantage with the Kindle - to suspend over the mountain of purring contentment.

I thought I had a great way of reading in bed with my Hanlin propped on the cat on my lap. It was working really well for 5 minutes and then she decided to change positions. Back to the drawing board. :-)

I think this kind of thing is analogous to people who want to smell their books. Some people are sniffers, some people aren't. I'm not a sniffer, so I don't mind not having a "book" smell, and I don't mind not having to situate my hardback in such a way so I can a) read it comfortably, b) get some light on it (via booklight or lamplight or whatever. Sometimes I've even used my iPod Touch!), and c) not have it go flopping all over the place when I want to read in bed. Ebook readers are much better for me in regards to that fiasco.

I'm actually finding my MSI Wind netbook quite curlable, so I couldn't imagine having any problems with a dedicated reader. Running FBReader fullscreen and portrait with brightness way down, it delivers a comfortable and book-like experience which is actually less distracting than a book in terms of page turning and keeping the page flat (can't really avoid it ) and pointed at my face. It's great for propping on my chest and reading in bed, and as I keep it turned on in sleep mode all the time, I can whip it out on the train and be reading just as quickly as a bookmarked paperback, and drop it back in my bag just as easily.

The size and weight probably wouldn't be comfortable for a smaller person, but the screen is no problem and for an average size/strength male, the form factor is just fine.

What I love about my reader is that turning the pages is much easier. And quicker. And it's harder to turn over 2 pages at once. It also means I don't have to move to get the next book I want to read, it's already in my hand! eInk is harder to smudge and rip too. I'm not planning to buy any pbooks ever again.

Absolutely, though my Kindle cover has a few teeth marks from this one:

I'm more of a "sneezer" than a "sniffer" so ebooks are great for me.
