I'm with virgin Media using their cable service, my 50mb connection has just had a free upgrade to 100mb and is expected to get another jump to 120mb soon. I think my upload spead is 10mb. It doesn't have a data cap, they use traffic management/shaping techiques at certain times of the day for those users that use too much data to slow their connection down during those periods. Costs me about £25 a month and so far I ger very little in the way of problems with it, my speed hovers around the stated level, approx 98mb-99.5mb and rarely goes down. The only issue I have is the fact they forced me to use their Super Hub with its poor Wifi range, I've had to get a repeater box while I save up to get a proper replacement Wifi solution.
My Mobile is with Orange UK on their Panther 36 plan, this gives me 1Gb 3g/HSDPA inclusive for the month which is more that enough for me as I utilise Wifi whenever it's available on my HTX One X. It should cost me £36 a month but being a former employee, I'm entitled to a discount so it only costs £21 a month. I've also go a 3G data SIM in my Samsung Galaxy Tab which is £25 a month for 1Gb data. I've also got a USB dongle that gets me 1Gb a month for £15. I've not used it in a while, so will probable cancel the contract on it. I think that pretty much covers my connections. |

Got rid of the satellite internet when the Conseil Régional installed Wimax, I was paying 69 euros a month for 6 gb down 1 gb up, as much as I could eat at night, but so slow that was one film......
Now have a nice fast connection with genuine unlimited use and free phone calls throughout europe and USA on wimax for 39 euros a month. Sim card on the ipad for eight euros a month for 350 mb wireless and unlimited wifi which works most places on sfr public wifi. 60 euros a month on the phone for unlimited calls and 5 gb data at high speed, then it gets slower the more I use. (and a new phone every two years) UK is cheaper than France but I like living in France...... Last edited by piperclassique; 07-06-2012 at 01:56 AM. Reason: Typo |

Advertised as 30 Mbps down, 2.5 up. But in reality about 1/2 that. Old fashioned copper, I believe. We've got unlimited access + Phone (land) + Mobile + TV + lotsa premium channels = €100-120 a month. Or so. Not horrible.

I really, really miss fish and chips. Haggis even more (Scottish chippie, obviously), but I won't cry if I never again see a deep fried Mars bar or a "Stonner" from Ruby's.

"Internet Service Comparison
Discussing Cloud vs. SDCard it became apparent that we really don't know what kind of service others have. It is easy to assume that everybody else have the same kind of service as you do. I thought it might be useful for us to have something to compare with. So, when you feel like it, please list your service, speed, price etc.Mine are: Local cable provider. Installed fiber optic cable to the house. Gives me 30 Mb down and about 7 Mb up. Price is $42 (exchange rate fluctuations apply) a month. No caps. Service works fine, 2 - 3 times a year the service may be down for a while, a whole day if it is a Saturday or Sunday. I think this service is becoming expensive........" Difficult to beat a rubber band for value..... Last edited by carpetmojo; 07-06-2012 at 05:41 AM. |
