You SHOULD be able to on some/most. But, opening will probably void warranty (assuming the iPod in question is still covered). A friend of mine made a few extra bucks changing batteries on various iPods for friends and such.

Tell that to the batteries of my mouse. They barely lasted 10 hours when new and by now, no more than 6 hours before I must change it. It is of course done on purpose so that I buy a new mouse. But my current mouse working fine (except for the batteries that is) I won't waste money buying a new one for a while.

Battery life will really get extend by the fact that as transistor/semi-conducting switches on microchips get smaller the amount of energy they use decreases at the same rate. There is a two year doubling rate for the number transistor/semi-conducting switches you can get on a microchip, so the amount of energy used is halved every two year. For example a Commodore 64 would run for like 30 second on an Apple Mac Book battery.

Have fun, Jan

You hit it on the head with this one. Everything is about profit, and if you want change, you make it monetarily advantageous to do so. Otherwise nothing gets done.
