Don't know if it is possible but I would like a sort of see-through eInk screen that handled b&w and then when colors were called for an underlying AMOLED or IPS would be activated. Hence, when reading (news, books, e-mails, SMS) the eInk part of the screen would be active, but when watching movies or other colorful content the underlying LCD would lit up.
Wishful thinking? Yes, but a lass can dream. |

I find my blackberry playbook is just great and i don't hanker over anything else.
Plus 7 inches really is a perfect size for a tablet - easy to read and to carry around. |

actually the lcd layer needs to be above the eink layer and there are already folks testing such an idea. the trick is optically bonding the layers so that the lcd layer , when clear, doesnt effect the visibility of the eink. samsung and others have shown transparent amoled displays http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-unv...splay-2486728/ http://asia.cnet.com/samsungs-protot...d-62109840.htm but i havent heard whether they attempted an eink sandwhich with them. since the amoled is thinner than the lcd it could help with clarity |

The Ipad 3 running Windows instead of iOS. I'm partial to the 4:3 aspect ratio for reading documents, and the Retina display.

I really like the Samsung Tab 7.7 although it's getting dated already, I'd like to see an upgraded version with the same Quadcore Exynos the S3 is rocking.

Perfect for me would be a 13" iPad. I love the form factor, but would like a bit more screen.

7" screen, with decent DPI, IPS.
Fast enough processor (I have no idea what is fast and what isn't) Enough memory (again, no idea how much is needed for a decent response) Wifi, absolutely no 3G SD Card slot 2.3 or higher, as long as it is stable. 5 hours of battery life or longer, stand-by at least 5 days Digitizer screen Basically, my Flyer ![]() 7", IPS 1024x600 screen, active digitizer (and I use that a lot!) It has a single core processor but can run about everything I throw at it No idea about memory though... SD card slot, wifi, all there, no 3G Runs (custom) Honeycomb and I now have it running for at least 142 days (that's when I installed that app that keeps track) straight (no reboots, no errors, nothing) I can use it two or three days without charging, total about 5 or 6 hours of reading, no idea what the stand-by time is, it gets used too much for that ![]() But I'd love a second, larger, tablet too. Those specs would be different in two ways: 12" 4:3 screen, again with a high enough DPI Longer battery life: 10 hours at least, again the week stand-by I'd like to use that one where I'd now have to use a laptop but would rather use a tablet. On holiday, showing pictures, for example. Or for reading PDF books (study). Or comics... I can show pictures on my Flyer, but as the screen is a lot smaller (and not 4:3) it's more difficult to show those pictures to multiple people. |

I purchased a cheap 7" android tablet some time ago when prices on quality ones was high. It works fine as an ebook reader but is just too underpowered for other uses.
My iPhone 3G is starting to look really slow as well, so I have been thinking of replacing my table and phone with the Galaxy Note 5.3". I know it seems like a too big phone and a too small tablet but I am thinking it just may hit the sweet spot for my needs. My tablet requires that I carry it in a small shoulder bag and also carry my phone in my pocket. With the Note, I could just carry one and it fits in the pocket. And it is big enough for ebook reading and bigger than my iPhone for web browsing, reading RSS feeds, etc. Price is high, but I am going to check them out. |
