They retuned the recommendations and lists recently to reduce the impact of free and cheap books, so you might find it is better now.

Daithi (#13) made all my points for me.

I'll just reiterate that I find the recommendations helpful by looking at the critical ones and the total # of reviews (good and bad).

Also as Harry (#15) said, I usually like the recommendations. I when I don't I just don't click on them.

What a waste of time of an article!

It's fine to be concerned about the conditions where the products we comsume are made, but it isn't just one company. If anyone is concerned about the conditions where Kindles are made, then take a look at how many products you buy are made in worse conditions.

One thing I won't tell Amazon:

I don't buy your products so I am impervious to your rip-offs.

I haven't been ripped off by Amazon. I've gotten what I'm paid for.

I did indeed buy more books after I got my first Kindle, simply because it made reading possible again. No **** I bought a bunch of books.

Oh and I love indie authors and their books. I never had the opportunity to buy from so many authors.
I actually spend less on ebooks than I did before my ereader. There are a lot of freebies out there.

(N) things MarketWatch.com won't tell you

1. They attract readership with sensational and misleading headlines
2. They break articles across several pages to increase advertising revenues
3. ... I really don't care ...

The point is, businesses are there to make money. They use all sorts of tricks in order to make that money, many of which consumers will see as dishonest or manipulative. This isn't an Amazon thing by any means.

Hah! "Well, duh." was exactly what I wrote when I commented on the same article when it was linked to the Huffington Post a few days ago.

"We hurt the mom and pop stores" was the one that irritated me most. If the Mom & Pop stores can't provide a superior shopping experience in the age of big box stores and the internet, they are going to need to find a new career path. Anyhow, I though Walmart was to blame for this ten years ago.

Those rat bastards at Amazon never told me...

That I shouldn't feed my dog a diet of chocolate.
That I shouldn't put my hand on that hot stove.
That prostitutes expect me to pay for it.
That Bezos wouldn't be sending me half of his profits.

And these are only a few of the many, many, many things that Amazon won't tell me.

it looks like most of the complaints can be applied to every single online retailer out there.
