A Sony Reader PRS-T1 can download eBooks without the need to connect to the computer. That does include library eBooks. Plus, the eBooks you have for your 505 will work on the T1 as long as they are ePub.

The books that you currently can send to your Fire wirelessly, you can also send to the Kindle Touch or Keyboard. They get sent to the devices the exact same way.

The only ones you'd have to hook up to the computer for are a couple of publishers, Penguin I think.

But you still need access to a computer in order to be able to download library eBooks for the eink Kindles. So if you are not at a computer, you'll have to wait until you have computer access.

The T1 does not need access to a computer to download from the library.

Yes, it is false. As said before in this thread multiple times, eink screen cannot be backlit. They need to be frontlit. Light will not shine through the eink screen.

So if the rumor is for a backlit eink Kindle, that's not possible.

Most people don't understand the difference so I'm sure that the OP meant a Eink Kindle they can read at night. There is a lighted Kindle soon to be released. This is not a rumor.

Yes, it IS a rumour. If you believe otherwise, please give a link to an official statement from Amazon stating that such a device is being released.

Severale people have reported checking out and downloading library books on a Kindle without using a computer. You need to disable javascript in the browser.

It's discussed in this thread. I would check with someone who has a Touch, to make sure it works on it too, since it looks like everyone in the thread had a K3.

You still cannot 100% borrow Kindle eBooks from the library without a computer and a USB cable because Penguin now forces you to sideload their eBooks.

Yes, Penguins are special snowflakes, it’s been noted several times:

And since the OP has a Fire, they probably already knew this as well. It was you blanket denial for library books I responded to.

Unless they have changed thing in the last couple of months, with Penguin books you need to initiate transfer via USB (you don't actually have to download the file), and then it shows up in the archive on kindles&apps, and can only then be downloaded via the device.

I borrow library books all the time in Kindle format and have never had to connect my Kindle Touch to my computer via usb. They download through amazon.com and are added to my library on my Kindle Touch through whispernet (either wifi or 3g).

It's possible that I've yet to borrow a Penguin book but all of the books that I've checked out from my library deliver wirelessly and do not need to be sideloaded.

However, I DO use a laptop to browse the library and complete the checkout. I have not tried to use my Kindle exclusively because the screen is so small, browsing through the library website would be quite annoying with the Kindle experimental web browser.

You can load any library book wirelessly but only with Wi-Fi. Amazon won't deliver library books using 3G.

When a Kindle eBook is available, you have to have access to a computer in order to get the Kindle eBook from Amazon to your Kindle. You don't have to di it via USB except if it's an eBook from Penguin. I'm mentioning the eink Kindles only.
