I was luckier. I got a replacement free of charge, and it was a more recent model. And they even offered to refund my postage. That was despite the fact that the faulty Kindle was three year old.

Perhaps it depends on who you speak to, or how they're feeling that day.

And how many Kindles that you have bought. I do think that their offer really depends on how much money you spend at Amazon. I think the cheapre price is great no matter what but there are plenty of folks who have been offered free upgrades.

My DXG just got a broken screen in carryon luggage today, at the airport. It was well protected... Must have "flexed" while carrying the bag it was in? Bummer... And a k3G just broke a screen a few weeks ago.

It will be nice when the new plastic (no-glass) screens make it into the kindles.
