Why on earth do you want to cut up books and scan to read on a device. Strikes me as an incredibly expensive way of obtaining e-books. Unless of course books are very cheap where you are and you are enjoying play time. Here in Aus a new trade paperback costs around $30 aud, and a small paperback can cost around $23.

I am not cutting up ANY books.

Just the ones that are mass publicated, that are NOT in ebook form, and that don't look like they will be soon.

If I purchase the book on amazon, then cut the spine, and scan it in....it is still cheaper then getting it at a discount at Barnes and Noble.

If I really want to keep the book, I can have it re-bound in a spiral binding by kinko's again for about $4-5

Plus once its canned in, you have all the benefits of digital storage

- no space
- searchable

I use the ScanSnap in the office to scan office paper.

No more messing with file folders, labels, etc.

Use sofwtare such as DevonThink to organize/search.

Works great.

(Too bad the iLiad has no search function..)

I have rubberbands around mine also. I am just going to stick them in a storage box until I make sure I am not going to need them again.

Thanks for that tip about the SW conversion....sounds like a good idea. Are you on a PC or Mac?
PC

The software I use is ScanSoft PDF Converter 4 for $49.99. I have the more expensive Pro version but the extras are not worth the price. I have not been able to get any use from them.

It automatically puts the page numbers, author, title, etc. that are on each page into a header/footer that can be easily deleted (after removing all section breaks). If you get it, send me a PM & I can give you some hints that may save you some time editing.
