There are pluses and minuses.
Some of the negatives which sway my choice: You cannot use the Calibre plugin Kindle Collections to administer your collections. Not a problem if you have only a few books, but it matters a lot to me. I read mostly in bed, usually lying on one side or the other. As I roll over, I switch my Kindle from one hand to the other. As the Keyboard model and the Basic model have buttons on both edges, pages can conveniently be changed with either hand. The Touch can only be 'paged' forwards by tapping or swiping the right-hand side of the page. The left-hand side is reserved for paging backwards. So, when lying on my left, paging forwards is a two-handed operation. |

It's only a very narrow strip at the left-side that does a page back, though. Tap the screen about 1/2" in from the left side and it does a page forward.

![]() The T1 has the best dictionaries already on the device. I use them a lot. I also like the internet access on it more. For some reason I find reading on the T1 easier. Don't know why, I just do. BUT the store is not the best. It is getting better but you can still fine more bargains at amazon. The covers are similar but the cover for the Kindle is much nicer & easier to hold while reading with the device.. All this is subjective. Others will have different experiences with the Kindle Touch & the T1. |

What "problem"? You can manage collections fine on the Kindle itself.

Well, that depends on how many books you have in your library. I'd not enjoy managing mine using the Kindle interface. The Kindle Collections plugin in Calibre makes it much simpler, and as far as I know, it does not work with the Touch (or the Fire).

Well, Harry...
I have four times that number, and they are in many collections. Copying them one at a time would be a pain. The Calibre Kindle Collections plugin makes the process automatic. I dread the thought that Amazon might block access to this process, as they have apparently done for the Touch and the Fire. |

I take your point, although I only add books a few at a time, and sorting out the collections as I add the books is not a problem.
I think, though, it's a little unreasonable to describe the fact that a 3rd-party tool doesn't work with the Kindle as a "problem" with the Kindle. There was never any claim made by Amazon (or anyone else) that it would work, after all. |

But it is my main reason for not wanting to own a Touch or a Fire. Kindle Collections works well with the Keyboard and the Basic models. For some reason, Amazon have blocked access to the necessary interface to allow it for function for a Touch or a Fire. That is a disappointment for a number of users. |
